More about working, and vacation!
So, been working my ass of the past few days (all this week and last) to build the most kick-ass database AccuTel has ever seen. Got pretty close, ‘course it doesn’t interface with our mainframe (yet), but it’s still got a killer user system that allows users to only view what they need to view. Got ideas for Tao of Jace 3.0: it’s gonna be fun. And it’s gonna be in Rails.
Speaking of which, I’m working on building an intranet site with training manuals, social committe crap, etc., for the ol’ office here. I found things I like, but have nearly decided that building my own will be easier, and a much better experience. So, I bought me a Rails book (beta a while back, and it shipped a couple of days ago), downloaded the ebook; and now I’m rolling with Ruby on Rails. First impression: it’s weird. It doesn’t feel like programming, and it’s freakishly fast how you can build working applications (not pretty, mind you). It’s a cool framework that I’m sure we’ll hear a lot more of, and if you don’t know anything about real programming languages (namely C/C++/C#/Java[although, Java's not real either]), then Ruby on Rails might be something for you to check out.
Also, I’m going on vacation! Only one day off, but a weekend away from the bump and grind here might be kinda fun. And I get to see Justin and Margaret, which I’m very much looking forward to. But I have to do laundry and pack tonight. Shit. C’est la vid (sp?).
More laters,
-Jace
