The Tao of Jace

I’m a moron [edited]

So I went to Mandy’s after work yesterday. Cooked her dinner a candle-light dinner, won major props there. And that was the only good part of the night. Just read the title as I won’t embellish further.

Getting really tired of a whole lotta shit. Think I may be deserving of better, but am more likely deserving of much worse. Oh well…

Hope all’s well in your life

Well…

Filed under: Archive — site admin @ 6:03 am

As it seems everyone I know online is without online, I have no comments. Kinda sad and depressing…

Work’s going well. We had our first “Event Bubble” where the database about 100 people use here just plain died. We lost information on almost 10000 accounts, but thank God for Backups! We were back up and running in a few hours, and we still haven’t had a whole day down. Two points to Jason and Mike at Keane for that. After everything was said and done, it looks like we only lost about an hour and a half’s work (data-wise), and 6 hours (work wise). Not terrible considering…

Vacation was fun. We had a good time at the Family Reunion, and damn I miss Dallas. I can’t wait to go back, I’ll be flying and driving a rental car then as it’s actually cheaper for me and Mandy to fly there, rent a car, pay for rental’s gas, etc. than to just drive my car there. Gas is too damn expensive.

Mandy and I are better, though I’m still not sure if she knew otherwise. Let me tell you something, guys:
Sometimes love needs to be more than a feeling. It’s got to be a choice. So when you think, “This sucks! I want something new, exciting, and/or HOT!” Just know that you may have the best thing in the world waiting for you back home.
And get over yourself. Despite what you may think, you’re not so good as to deserve her, so pull your head out of your ass and get over it. (That was directed towards myself).

Just fyi- Emails have subject lines for a reason. Are you aware of this? Then use them. (not anyone here, just people at work).

Also, I went to take a nap at 5pm yesterday. And woke up at 5am today. Begrudgingly. I kinda feel like Wade.

One more thing: I got a new DVD player: it plays DivX. It’s so cool to watch Kill Bill straight from a CD. And it look that good. And it fit on just one. DVD player only cost $45, has component video, and digital audio outs. I likey. Now just to buy that stereo and flat screen tv, and nikon d50, and mac mini, and new car, and apartment, etc. I’ll be broke before I’m 22.

Got my own release date for the new Tao of Jace, but to keep some pressure offa me, I’m not gonna say when. I will say there’s going to be a whole lot more stuff. Some will be very geek-oriented, others will be even less. It is gonna be Rails based, have versioning (cause that’s just sooooo cool), and a kickass tracking system. So it may be kinda pushing the deadline, and that’s still aways off.

Hope y’all are having fun.

ps. make someone’s day today. It might make yours.

More about working, and vacation!

Filed under: Archive — site admin @ 1:41 pm

So, been working my ass of the past few days (all this week and last) to build the most kick-ass database AccuTel has ever seen. Got pretty close, ‘course it doesn’t interface with our mainframe (yet), but it’s still got a killer user system that allows users to only view what they need to view. Got ideas for Tao of Jace 3.0: it’s gonna be fun. And it’s gonna be in Rails.

Speaking of which, I’m working on building an intranet site with training manuals, social committe crap, etc., for the ol’ office here. I found things I like, but have nearly decided that building my own will be easier, and a much better experience. So, I bought me a Rails book (beta a while back, and it shipped a couple of days ago), downloaded the ebook; and now I’m rolling with Ruby on Rails. First impression: it’s weird. It doesn’t feel like programming, and it’s freakishly fast how you can build working applications (not pretty, mind you). It’s a cool framework that I’m sure we’ll hear a lot more of, and if you don’t know anything about real programming languages (namely C/C++/C#/Java[although, Java's not real either]), then Ruby on Rails might be something for you to check out.

Also, I’m going on vacation! Only one day off, but a weekend away from the bump and grind here might be kinda fun. And I get to see Justin and Margaret, which I’m very much looking forward to. But I have to do laundry and pack tonight. Shit. C’est la vid (sp?).

More laters,

access and more about me

Filed under: Archive — site admin @ 6:16 am

Wow, this has been a craaaazy week. By wed. I had already racked up more than two hours of overtime. I likey the time and a half. It’sa very nice.

Mandy’s been gone all week, not that I noticed or anything. Actually I have. I’ve been getting much more sleep. It’s probably a good thing she doesn’t read this all that often… To be honest, I was really ready for a week off from that. I love that girl to death, but sometimes… damn.

So work’s good. I’ve been building a database for issues we have with dealerships here. It’s wicked what all Access can do, with just a little effort and programming knowledge you can do a WHOLE lot with it. It’s really spiffy. Not that I don’t still think it sucks and it’s stupid that our ENTIRE OPERATION here operates out of some form of an Access database; but it’s got some real power behind it if you can learn how to work with it.

Jess, I’m good. Mandy and I are doing well, except that last week she was really getting on my nerves. Not sure why, maybe I’m just tired or she was just bitchy, but grrrr. I really love ‘er though, and we’re kinda throwing around the “M” word. Scary as hell. I’m working a lot but I’m getting paid rather well, so I’ve finally got some money in the ol’ bank account. That’s kinda nice. Mandy and I will be at the Dave Matthews Band concert in Dallas on 3 Sep, and I’m really looking forward to getting out of town with her. I just can’t wait. I’m taking my first paid day off next friday to go to our family reunion by way of the BigD. Justin and his fiancĂ© will be there from Georgia, and I’m really excited to see him. Been a long time, and I can’t wait to hang out with them. Rock the Desert is this weekend, and that’s always fun. I’ll be working backstage again, and I’ll get to hang out with the sound techs. Hellatight guys there. Well, that’s me. What about you?
