The Tao of Jace

Moved!

Filed under: Archive — site admin @ 11:16 am

Well, I’m now working on getting this whole thing completely up and running. In case you’re wondering, I’m not using my own CMS. I decided I didn’t want to build an admin section just yet. I probably will pretty soon, and use it for jacegregg.com, but for now I’m not working too hard on it. If you have any problems or displeasures here at the new Tao of Jace, please let me know and I’ll try to fix it.

Well I better get back to work, more coming soon.

Oh yeah, comments didn’t transfer, so they’re closed on all the older posts.

PHP is taking over…

Filed under: Archive — site admin @ 10:53 pm

Oh now. I think I'm becoming a PHP lover.

I think it's awesome, it's easy, and it's fast. Not to mention the huuuuuge user base. Certain things I don't like, but it's so much easier than ASP.Net that I don't really care.

So, the main thing that I like is that I can build the webpage locally (on my Mac), and use the database on my webserver, so I can post comments, but you can't. I can change everything and then upload it when I'm ready.

Or I can use TextWrangler and update my webpage over FTP FOR FREE! I've got to say that I love this program. It alone is worth switching to a Mac for. I can update all my locked PHP files, and system resource files. I can open, edit and save a file through FTP, and it's totally free. It's really, really cool.

So, now the comments are working (locally) for TaoPHP, and I'm really happy cause it can use BBCode for all the comments. Which means my new site is about 50% done pages wise, and 80% done code wise. Hopefully I'll make my May 1st “deadline”. We'll see.

Hope all is well wherever you are.

Lots of cool

Filed under: Archive — site admin @ 10:56 pm

So, lots of news hit the world (or at least mine) today.

1. Adobe's buying Macromedia - This is cooler than cool. Finally no more Flash that's all goofy and doesn't look/work anything like Photoshop. And the two will become one before too long. That'll be waaaaaay nice.

2. ASP.Net Beta 2 has come out and will be way fun if Brinkster decides to upgrade. Tao2 will still be PHP, but an all new thing will likely be ASP.Net v2.

3. I watched Sin City. It's an awesome film and I recommend it to anyone.

That's all for now. No news of jobs.

BS rains down

So I didn't get that promotion. Some new kid who's been here two months less than I did. Oh well. Fuck 'em I say. Got my resume to another local firm that needs a techie to help them out. 40 hours + all the OT I want. Might be fun.

So my website's getting a [a href="http://www.allitode.com/taophp"]facelift[/a], and I think it's coming along rather nicely. Please let me know what you think of it. If anyone ever reads this…

Lots of death. And my anniversary.

Filed under: Archive — site admin @ 5:37 am

So everyone's died, been killed, been unplugged and allowed to starve to death, or is dying from complications arising from infections. Interesting. I'm still kinda sick, should any one be interested (however unlikely and improbable).

So yeah, Mandy and I celebrated 6 years yesterday and I totally forgot to post anything about it. Not that it would be read, but still… Made chicken fettuccine (sp?) at her place and it was good. Watched Finding Neverland with her tonight, and that's a good one.

Was really hoping ASP.Net 2.0 beta 2 would come out today, but I should have known better. A new design is underway and may be unveiled soon (if Whidbey gets the goLive license and Brinkster picks it up…). We'll see.

So I had an interview for a Technical Support Specialist position at AccuTel (the place I work), where I've been creating this rather kickass database for the past month. It's in access, so it sucks, but it's really kinda fun and relatively secure. Not to mention all of my bosses have been really impressed by it. Hopefully I'll get that promotion and I'll finally start making some decent money.

Oh YEAH! Mandy and I are going to Dallas next weekend. Leaving Midland on Friday. Going to a Mavs game on Saturday. Staying for church on Sunday (looking forward to going back to Grace). And she'll shop a lot. Staying at a nice hotel (***1/2), and gonna have a lotta fun. Maybe even get her some Ink done in Arlington. We'll see.

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
